Tribute

Robert Earl Edwards lived a fulfilling life as a devoted husband, loving father, respected engineer, and faithful servant of the Lord. He was born on January 16, 1937, near Selman, OK; the son of Enoch E. and Emma A. (Chase) Edwards. A 1955 graduate of Leon High School, Robert earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wichita State University. He and Sharon Reeves had their first date on Valentine’s Day sixty-eight years ago and were united in marriage on September 28, 1958, in El Dorado, KS.

He was a talented multi-sport athlete as a young man and loved sports of all kinds. He enjoyed travelling and exploring the outdoors with Sharon; spending time with family; and trout fishing in the mountains of Colorado. He gave generously of his time and talents to serve others as a leader and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was called to serve as Branch President and, later, Bishop of the Augusta Ward. Robert retired from Cessna Aircraft in 2000 after a successful career in aerospace engineering with contributions including NASA’s Apollo program, Cessna’s Citations, and pioneering work in Computer Aided Design. In 2009-2010 he and Sharon served as missionaries in the New York, New York South Mission teaching and serving young adults and college students.

His family includes his wife, Sharon of Augusta, KS; children Chris (Darlah) Edwards of Ft. Worth, TX and Ryan (Susan) Edwards of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Jessica (Sean) Wallace, Jordon Edwards, Jake (Megan) Edwards; Harrison (Melanie) Edwards, Delaney Edwards, great grandchildren, Kinley, Paxton, Jaxson, Parker, Theo and Indie; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family that loved Robert dearly.
