Martha "Faye" Walters
February 11, 1947 ~ September 15, 2023 (age 76) 76 Years Old
Martha Faye (Sanderson) Walters, 76, of Cassoday, Kansas, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023.
Martha Faye was born in Wichita, Kansas on February 11, 1947, to the late Mary Lucille (Osborn) and Earl Jefferson Sanderson. She attended Dodge Elementary, Mayberry Junior High and graduated from West High School in Wichita. Faye also attended Butler County Community Junior College where she was a member of the Pep Club and was on the Drill Team. She graduated with an Associate of Art degree in 1968.
On February 19, 1967, Faye married Riley G. Walters in El Dorado, Kansas. Faye and Riley made their home near Cassoday, Kansas. There they worked together to farm and to raise their family. They had three children – Tresa, Jeffrey and Robert. Faye was a full-time homemaker and mother, as well as a farmhand. She and Riley also owned and operated Vegetrol, a weed management company, for over 30 years.
After marrying Riley, Faye joined the DeGraff Presbyterian Church. She was a dedicated member for many years serving as an Elder, Trustee, Sunday School Secretary, Vacation Bible School Leader and Presbytery representative. When the DeGraff church closed, Faye transferred her membership to First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado where she continued to be an active member until her death. Faye also volunteered as a project and club leader for the Cassoday Boosters 4-H Club and was a member of the Cole Creek Extension Homemakers Unit for many years.
Faye’s main passion was her family. She was a loving Grandmother who delighted in attending as many of her grandchildren’s activities as possible. She also enjoyed genealogy research. She spent countless hours searching through records and cemeteries for information about her and Riley’s ancestors. Her efforts led to her discovering lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, qualifying her for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Faye was a member of the Susannah Putney Chapter of the DAR.
Faye is survived by: her husband of 56 years, Riley Walters; children, Tresa (Genaro) Garcia, Jeffrey (Kinsey) Walters, and Robert (Jenny) Walters; grandchildren, Jeffrey Garcia, Mark Walters, Lucas Walters, Trena Garcia, Kathryn Walters, Riley Garcia, Maren Walters, Holt Walters and Flint Walters; brother, Donald Sanderson; and numerous nieces and nephews, grandnephews and grandnieces, and great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Earl Franklin Sanderson and her sister, Mary Joan Myers.
Family and friends will gather at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home on Wednesday September 27th from 5-7pm for visitation. A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of El Dorado on Thursday September 28th at 10:30am. She will be laid to rest at Ridgeway Cemetery in Burns Kansas immediately following.
