Joan’s life began on November 25, 1934 in El Dorado, KS; the daughter of Charles and Louise (Schaffer) Taylor; raised by her grandparents, Edward “Ed” and Marie Troxell. Joan graduated from high school in Holyrood, KS. She was united in marriage to Kenneth T. Schepmann and worked hard raising four children on the Holyrood farm. She then moved to California to help manage a ranch. While in California she met and married Charles “Chuck” Green. They then moved on to Santa Rosa and she managed a gift wrapping facility in malls and helped deliver the Santa Rosa newspaper in wine country. After the passing of Chuck, she moved backed to Kansas to be with her children and became a member of Three Wooden Crosses Church and loved to sing. She enjoyed quilting and had a deep love of music. Her family includes her children, Marlyn (Louis) Brown of Leon, Kenneth (Jane) Schepmann of Topeka, KS, Jeannette Young of Leon and Julie (Bobby) Hokr of El Dorado; brother Steve (Sue) Ballard of Utah; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Joan passed away on November 7, 2022 in Whitewater, KS. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Chuck; sister, Jean Swanson and son-in-law Cotton Young. Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 18 at 10am at the Three Wooden Crosses Church in Augusta. Burial will follow at Leon Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Joan’s name may be directed to the Three Wooden Crosses Church or to Wheatstate Manor of Whitewater.
