Tribute

John E. Hilton, 84, retired banker, died on March 9, 2024.
John was born in El Dorado, Kansas on June 19, 1939; the son of Harold L. and Helen M. Hilton (Towner).
John was raised by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. John F. Towner.
John attended school in El Dorado and graduated from El Dorado High in 1957; while in school he was active in football, baseball and wrestling. He attended El Dorado Junior College on a football scholarship in 1958-1959 and attended Pittsburg State University.
John was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life and took many trips to Canada to hunt big game and birds. John was blessed with having some of the finest Deutsch-Drahthaar hunting dogs in North America. He and his dogs made many hunting trips to South Dakota and the western states.
John’s 50 yearlong finance career began with Borg Warner Finance of Wichita, KS; where he stayed for two years and travelled the entire state of Kansas. He was employed by Fourth National Bank that eventually was named Bank of America. He was manager of several departments. John worked for Prairie State Bank and Intrust Bank as Vice President Commercial Loan Officer for many years. John received many certificates from banking school. He was a graduate of real estate appraisal school. He was also a director of the Butler Foundation for 10 years.
John had no family except one hunting dog, Lux that was his best buddy and good friend.
John has many friends that he kept in contact with from high school, college, and banking to his last days. John always said there are two things in life that are the most important; good friends and good dogs; and he was blessed with them both. “Home is the Hunter; Home from the Hunt”
