Tribute

Jimmy Dewitt Stanphill, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Jim was born in Metalton, Arkansas on January 24, 1934 to Charles and Ota (Hobbs) Stanphill. He attended school until the 8th grade and then went to work with his father to help support the family. In 1954, Jim joined the United Stated Army and served his country until 1957, when he was honorably discharged. He served in the reserves until 1962.
After leaving the service, Jim traveled to Kansas and began working for his uncle to learn the plumbing trade. Around the same time, he met Martha Scheck. They were united in marriage on June 25, 1960 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They were married for 61 years until Martha’s passing in 2021. Throughout their marriage, Jim worked for Nungessor Plumbing, Potter Plumbing and Heating and Williamson Plumbing. In 1998, he decided to retire, but in less that 6 months later he started his own sewer cleaning business and served this community until March 2021.
In his free time, Jim was an avid gardener, enjoyed watching NASCAR races and going to the casinos with his wife and later with his daughters. Once he started having grandchildren, he enjoyed going to their school activities and programs. He loved spending time and visiting with his grandchildren. His eyes would absolutely sparkle whenever they would come to visit. He always said he wanted to be a better grandfather than he was a father. Jim also liked feeding the birds and taking care of the neighborhood squirrels. He even had some squirrels who would scratch at the door if they were hungry. He was also a long time member of the American Legion.
Jim is survived by his three daughters, Theresa Stanphill of El Dorado, Vickie Maloney of Wichita and Cindy Newell (Patrick) of Salina, eight grandchildren, Dr. Elissa Rosebraugh (Michael), Jeffrey Failes, Zachary Maloney (Adrianne), Trevor Maloney, Abby Maloney, Hunter Newell, Luke Newell, Ethan Newell and one great granddaughter, Mia Maloney.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Martha, his parents and siblings, Darvel and Phyllis.
